Hydrogen production from biogas: Process optimization using ASPEN Plus®

This work is part of the VABHYOGAZ (valorization biogas into hydrogen) program, which targeted industrial deployment hydrogen production from in France. To-date, different processes methane reforming, such as steam reforming (SRM), dry (DRM) and tri-reforming (TRM), have been studied literature, but only SRM applied at scale. Since an energy-intensive process, a critical analysis these routes for indispensable process optimization. has addressed this work, by using ASPEN Plus® simulation. Different global biogas, via DRM, SRM, or TRM, with without tail gas recycling, studied. Among them, TRM technique (H2-TRM0.3C process) partial recycling (30%) was found to be best option, leading highest rate energy yield. H2-TRM0.3C also more efficient than actual (H2-REF), based on technique. Under same conditions, led higher H2 (8.7% more), lower total consumption (18.6% less), waste heat generation (15.4% comparison (H2-REF).
